Obidos
Obidos was when the fun really started for us! The day before we were supposed to explore Belem, but we got a little derailed due to the whole bags/passports/credit cards getting stolen thing. Once we made it to Obidos, we had everything figured out and our brand new clothes from H&M. The picture of Delri & Pieter shows everything we owned between the 4 of us.
To be honest, I wasn't feeling super excited to visit this town because I wanted to be more on the coast. BUT I was surprised to find I absolutely loved it! Obidos is a really small town that is completely surrounded by a castle wall. They have everything inside this little town- a post office, restaurants, a church, and small little grocery stores. The town is so small though, you can walk around the whole thing in about 15 minutes. (Which is what we did!) The people were so nice and the town was bustlin' especially considering how small it was. If you ever go to Portugal, I would say this town is a must-see.
What We Ate
All of our meals in Portugal were amazing. I've actually had a few people tell me they went to Portugal years ago and weren't crazy about the food. I'm not sure why our experience was different, but we truly loved all our meals! We found this one place in Lagos we went to twice (even though there was a 2 hour wait both nights) because the food was that good. We only went to restaurants recommended to us by locals, so maybe that helped. Our host, Carlos, recommended this little hole in the wall place and we were so glad he did!
I had the dourada...a mild tasting white fish. I wanted to try a classic Portuguese dish. They sprinkled some course salt on top, which I loved. Fleet & Delri had steak and veggies, and Pieter had fish n' chips. Everyone was happy! We started and finished every day with a cappucino. I'm not sure if thats a European thing or a Pieter thing, but either way it was fun.
OUR ROOM
Our Air Bnb was so awesome! Our host was so nice and told us about the cutest little restaurant in town. He had tons of snacks for us, too. This was one of the cutest places we stayed. One of the walls of our place was shared with the castle. (See the picture of the stairs below- it's the same wall Delri & I walked on earlier.)
