Germany
We just got back from a two week trip to meet up with some friends in Germany & Portugal. (I'm breaking it up into a few posts because the pictures are just to overwhelming for one.)
The Lyons are friends we met in Austin who moved to Germany a few months ago. It all happened so quickly we barely had time to process them leaving. We went expecting the change would be hard on them. But it was quite the opposite- they seem to be thriving. It made Fleet & I so happy to see our friends loving their new lives. Brendan and Erin showed us around their town (which is essentially in the Swiss alps). We went to all their favorite restaurants and tried curry wurst, pork knuckle, and liverwurst. The only thing I didn't love was the liverwurst, which sweet little Ella took care of for me ;). The pork knuckle was kind of amazing. We also had about one million cappuccinos, give or take.
Their new home is gorgeous- and spacious. Fleet and I stayed in a little guest house attached to theirs with its own kitchen and bathroom. We were still a little jet lagged so we stayed up late playing Mario bros on our matching 2ds's. (Tune in to my next post for a plot twist on those.) We spent the morning lounging: watching german netflix shows and I got to knit a little bit. The rest of the day we were out walking around their cute town.
On our last night we drove to their town lake. It was rainy but we went to the lake anyways because Brendan promised us ice cream afterwards. (No lie- it was the best ice cream I've ever had.) On our way to the Lake we saw the biggest double rainbow in the history of the world. We also did a quick 10 minute drive over to Austria. So technically, I've been to Austria now, too. :) Every single thing we saw in Germany was beautiful, clean, and orderly. The roads were nice, the houses adorable, and the scenery magnificent.
We only stayed for a day and a half- which was way too short. It was so fun to spend time with our friends, though, and i'm glad we can envision what their life looks like now. We really hope to go back some time soon!
